These containers were used in the PRR keystone container service for ltl shipments via flat car. The car was dropped off with containers for a shipper to load up. The containers could be sent on the full car to the destination, or moved to another car as needed. This unique service was common place from the 30s till the 50s. Prr used them for years afterwards in their MOW services. They even turned some into switch boxes along side the tracks.
These early "shipping containers" will add a very unique detail to your layout.
The DD1A container has the bi fold doors and hooks on the top. It also has doors on both sides of the train car. This piece is highly detailed and scaled to be accurate in size.
